The Story of Brett Ensley Studios
Brett Ensley’s musical journey began long before he ever imagined owning a studio. It started in his childhood home, when his mom bought a piano and signed herself up for lessons. Brett, curious and drawn to the instrument, gravitated toward the keys. Before long, it became clear that only one of them could continue lessons—and Brett’s enthusiasm won out. He took over his mom’s lesson time and never looked back.
As he grew, so did his talent. Aunts asked him to play for weddings, and soon he was performing at church. Music became a natural part of his identity. In school, Brett joined the marching band, where a teacher pushed him, challenged him, and helped shape his discipline. By senior year, Brett faced a difficult crossroads: baseball or music. He chose music, a decision that would define the rest of his life.
Brett earned a music scholarship to college, where his curiosity expanded beyond performance. He began creating his own music—experimenting, composing, and discovering the joy of building something from nothing. In both high school and college, he traveled with local bands, writing original songs and performing anywhere there was an audience.
After college, Brett worked, married, and kept music at the center of his life. He continued performing with bands and took on composition projects whenever they came his way. His high school marching band teacher began sending students to him, and Brett started teaching private lessons out of his home. Word spread, and soon he needed more space.
He moved his growing business into a shared studio with film producers, where his vision began to take shape: a place where students could learn, collaborate, and build community through music. But just as things were gaining momentum, disaster struck—the building burned. Brett had to reinvent everything.
He traveled, taught privately, and kept building relationships. Eventually, he moved again and transformed a sunroom into a mix room, expanding his teaching and recording work. Brett’s love for students meant his home was constantly full of music and movement—kids running from the lesson room into the kitchen, families gathering, creativity spilling into every corner.
In 2018, Brett’s family grew with a new baby, and the studio grew with them. Lessons, recording, and collaboration were expanding, and it was time to build again. In 2021, after welcoming another child, Brett converted his garage into a full recording studio. He extended the garage for “storage,” but it quickly became storage for instruments—and another teaching room.
Then came the next evolution. Brett built a storage area out back for his wife, but as the business grew and he added teachers, space ran out once more. The “storage” was transformed into two additional teaching rooms, freeing up the live room for bands and group classes.
Today, Brett Ensley Studios stands as a living, breathing reflection of Brett’s creativity, resilience, and devotion to his students. It is a place that is always building, always innovating, always expanding—because Brett’s ideas never stop. What began with a single piano lesson has grown into a vibrant, community-centered studio where musicians of all ages learn, create, and belong.
And true to its founder, the studio continues to evolve—one idea, one student, one room at a time
